Emphasising Your Value in Finance Interviews
Picking Out Key Experiences That Will Highlight Your Value
In your interviews, look for opportunities to discuss your experiences.
Your experiences are what make you ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฅ๐.
We can keep your answers simple and structured by using the STAR method.
S - The ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง you were in
T - Your ๐ญ๐๐ฌ๐ค/responsibility in that situation
A - What ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง you took
R - The ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ of your actions
Now letโs look for opportunities to use this approach.
๐ The obvious examples are questions like โdescribe a time when you had toโฆโ
Or โtell me about a challenging experience doing XYZ.โ
But when else can you discuss your experiences?
๐ What about questions like โhow do you deal withโ / โwhat is your approachโ?
E.g., โHow do you deal with conflicts/disagreements with stakeholders?โ
๐ Another opportunity is โhow well do youโฆ?โ
E.g., โHow well do you lead projects/deals?โ
๐ โWhat is the most challenging part of Xโ
E.g., the most challenging part of building a dashboard
You donโt always have to discuss one specific experience.
๐ If you have done something many times (e.g., being involved in a budgeting process), you can discuss multiple experiences.
The important thing is showing your ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก the situation.
And showing you can ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฌ.
